About the event
The 11th BRICS Parliamentary Forum will be held in Brasilia, at the National Congress Palace, from June 3 to 5, 2025. Organized by the Chamber of Deputies and the Federal Senate, the event will gather parliamentary leaders from the eleven member countries and nine BRICS partner nations.
Established in 2006 as “BRIC”, with Brazil, Russia, India and China, the group became “BRICS” in 2011, with South Africa’s inclusion. In 2023, during the Johannesburg Summit, six new members joined: Saudi Arabia, Egypt, United Arab Emirates, Ethiopia, Indonesia and Iran.
Additionally, BRICS has nine partner countries: Belarus, Bolivia, Kazakhstan, Cuba, Malaysia, Nigeria, Thailand, Uganda and Uzbekistan.
BRICS aims to strengthen economic, political and social cooperation among its members and enhance the Global South’s influence in international governance. BRICS also seeks to promote sustainable socioeconomic development and social inclusion.
Under the motto “The role of BRICS parliaments in building more inclusive and sustainable global governance”, the Parliamentary Forum will focus on the following priority themes: co-operation in global health; trade, investment and finance; climate change; artificial intelligence governance; multilateral peace and security architecture and institutional development. The goal is to expand the impact of the Parliamentary Forum’s reflections on the BRICS Summit meeting, scheduled for July 6 and 7, in Rio de Janeiro.
On June 3, the Parliamentary Forum will feature two thematic meetings: Meeting of BRICS Women Parliamentarians and Meeting of the Chairs of the Committees on International Affairs of BRICS Parliaments. On June 4th and 5th, the priority themes will be discussed in the plenary work sessions.
